What's Next?
Posted Friday, May 20, 2011
Congratulations to over 165 students from Richmond and Delta who created a total of 74 projects on the history of Canada for Heritage Fair 2011.
What happened at the Fair?
These students were interviewed by a panel of judges drawn from the community, including a Museum Director, a Public Art Planner, and many retired educators. They also got a back-stage pass to the Museum's "secret" storage where the artefacts are kept and special entry into a heritage house in Terra Nova. If that wasn't enough, they also participated in a workshop on Aboriginal culture, family stories through art, heritage conservation, and exhibit-making.
What's next?
There's more! We are have selected five students to be our "heritage ambassadors" to the BC Provincial Heritage Fair in Victoria, July 4-8, where they will showcase their Heritage Fair projects at the Royal BC Museum and take part in a number of other fun, history-related field trips and activities.

BC People - Portraits of Diversity
Posted Friday, February 18, 2011
A great website for ideas on projects, or just to learn about our province's heritage: BC People features the stories of 50 British Columbians from a diverse background: at the website, you'll find the stories of Sam and Phung Lam, a Burns Lake couple who came to Canada 35 years ago after being kicked out of their homeland Cambodia by the Khmer Rouge, or Rudy Rozsypalek, a glider pilot in Pemberton who 'escaped' communist Czechoslovakia in 1989. Forty-eight other snippets of history await you!
At the website, you'll find:
-
35 podcast interviews in audio, slideshow, video formats
-
130 page full colour book
-
much more!
Additionally, between now and March 15, visitors to the site can enter to win an iPad!
BC People was produced by a team of creative professionals led by Julie Gordon & Associates, a communications consulting firm in Victoria B.C. The project was made possible through funding from the Government of Canada and the Province of British Columbia, through Embrace BC.

Heritage Fair website launches
Posted Wednesday, November 24, 2010
There's a new home on the web for the Richmond Delta Regional Heritage Fair. Bookmark this site for regular updates and new resources as we approach the 2011 Fair on May 6-7, 2011.
What is the Heritage Fair?
The Fair showcases research projects on Canadian history, and students participate in a full-day program of field trips, workshops, and other activities. This is similar to a science fair, but is so much more! Best of all, it's FREE!
